This week was more focus on completing our pdfs and due to the massive snow, getting to college was problematic. So we mostly stayed at home doing our work.
But on the tuesday and friday, my class and 1 looked at each others pdfs and gave feedback on it. I was glad that I really improved from my last pdf session, which did not go that well by the way, and by the end of this I hope to get a much better mark than average.
Fish and chips on friday was not that great than before....sigh...

Okido
We were given a list of workshops for us to sign up and I chose okido. It was a real pain to get this workshop, cause the spots for it were filling up fast, but I manage to get it in the end.
Its an illustrative workshop so I'm pretty excited. This is good chance to meet who work in the illustration business.
There website is here if anyones interested in seeing their work:

Week 8 Seesions
Well so far my Term 1 project is moving slowly, but it's progressing pretty well. I did some sketches before Tuesday and showed it to the class. Sadly, this blog is NOT LETTING ME POST ANY IMAGES so I can't really show the images I've done, but when I can, I'll show you some of my work.
On Friday, we showed our PDF presentations to the class. I was kind of worried that we had to display our work to the entire class but we only showed a few people so it was kind of a big relief to me. Anyway, I was given a few things to improve and I was even given an artist who may help me with my PDF design. His name is Mike Perry and his work is pretty sweet. Check out his website if you're interested in print screening and illustrations.

So ya, now I need to give my work a lot of tuning up before I give it in on December.

Friday 19 Nov Group Session
Well we first told what to do on that day and we got into our designated groups. Our assignment was about our format for the GDF project. We were to design a prototype of the format, which uses the 3 variables our group have been working with. A list of different formats was given to us and we were to choose 5 formats that are appropriate to our variables.
So the first thing my group did was deciding what format would we all be able to work with. After circling all the formats we liked, we then narrow it down to 5 formats. The formats we chose were Event, Banner, Guerrilla Campaign, Short Movie (AD) and Poster. Next we began listing down some ideas for each format. The outcome for this session was to have two lists for each format, one that is cliché and another that is completely crazy or exaggerated. For a while our group had a bit of confusion on what our tutors meant about the format being crazy. The problem was that our group thought that the ideas we came up with was unrealistic, but what they did not understand was that, being unrealistic, was the entire point of the format being crazy. After that little problem was taken care of we realised that time was of the essance, so we splitted ourselves into smaller groups and separated the work. Bart and I were in charge of the guerrilla campaign format. So of course Bart had an idea already and straight away we wrote down what our idea was, but then we were told to draw out the ideas so it was my time to shine. What Bart and I did for the crazy idea was that we would fill a bus stop full of trash and there would be a message written on where the ads go on a bus stop and this message would change each day. We left out the idea of a cliché guerrilla campaign because, as Bart said, there is no such thing as one, but we had to make two posters so we had to come up with another one. That’s when I came up with the idea of a ‘graffiti forest’ where every graffiti artist in the inner city would draw trees and anything else nature like on everything in the city from walls to the outer shell of the cars.
My group actually finished the formats early than expected which was a big win for us. We then looked at what other groups came up with and I was quite amazed at what they came up. Then when it came to our group, we were given some good comments about our work.

Fridays Session
We began our first big assignment on Fad. We were to get into our groups based on our timetables. Ridiculously, we were to choose our three main points, which are client, audience and message, and the only way to do that is to role a dice and let fate decide for us. Sadly, once our points have been chosen, we are to stay with that decision and nothing else. Obviously we got the most boring topic of all:
Client: Global Corporation
Message: Become Greener
Audience: Inner City 15-20 year olds
Boring I know. After that, we were then taught about the 6 thinking men:
WHAT WHEN HOW WHO WHERE & WHY
So the first thing we did was writing up some questions about our brief using the 6 thinking men. Made a few large posters for each point and hang them on the wall.
Then after lunch we began our research on our brief by looking closer at our brief and answering the questions we made.
Then we finished early. That's about it...truthfully my mind is just not at that state where I feel like writhing a blog so sorry....

Some interesting videos
These guys are amazing, not only do they animate well, but they bring a sense of art and culture into their work. I hope to animate as well as they do. Achieving this won't be easy, but I will try. Anyway enough of my rambling, check these out.
This one's just adorable:
If you want to see more of their work, check out their youtube site:

VCT Today
Today in VCT we talked about a system in design. My god, did my head hurt, but basically todays lesson was to help us with our essays that I'm really stressing out about...anyway, I had a little talk with my tutor and I decided I might MIGHT talk about the book I recently bought.
Hopefully this will work. So ya...awesome...
A trip to the circus
No I did not go to the circus, but I did go to a museum about the circus' art.
The assignment was to visit the museum of everything and it was hard to get there, but after asking for directions from complete strangers I succeeded to getting there.
When I arrived, I was baffled to what I was seeing. Colourful hallways, clown statues, circus posters and funny mirrors? I thought I was in some sort of fun house. But through some careful observing, I started to gain interest to this exhibition. Carl Hammer owns this entire gallery.
To me, the theme to this gallery was the circus after seeing the large banners of freak shows and outrageous stunts. The art style was quite childish in a way, but I guess that was what they were aiming for. Fred G. Johnson and Snap Wyaat made these posters. Sadly, was not able to read much more about them. Don't ask why... Many of the small posters were made using collage techniques and screen-printing. I found it quite clever how they manipulated the images into creating these posters. Also, the typography they used were bold and quite colourful, which really appeals to children. So in a way, these posters use the image and text technique, which in fact, we are studied in VCT on the first day.
But what I thought was the best part in the museum was Potter’s work. Potter was the village taxidermist and not only does he stuff dead animals but he makes dioramas out of them as well. My favourite one out of all of his work would have to be his animatic diorama of two rats boxing. He made several dioramas with the same characters but in different position creating a sort of short movie. I even made a few sketches of some of his dioramas. (Note: will update images soon). Also, Potter had some of the weirdest looking animals, like a lamb with two faces and one that had two bodies and one head! ...Freaky… David Price, one of the workers, told me that farmers actually found these weird animals the way they are before he stuffed…. I would freak out if I saw something like that…

Cut, Paste, Observe…
The next thing we did, which I thought was quite interesting, was to produce a narrative sequence using the newspaper given to us. To me, it was sort of like creating a comic strip, which I love doing. Anyway, I chose two of the six sequences we were given which were ‘movement to movement’ and ‘Non-sequitor.’ (I’ll put some images of my work later.)
Then we had lunch! I had the fish…it was….meh. Let get back to my session.
The next thing we did was just cut out images left in the newspapers, cut out headings and subheadings and stick one of the images with one of the headings. We were to make four of them so in was quite a hassle to dig through the piles of newspapers and find some decent images and headings. Somehow I managed to finish them. They weren’t as great as the other ones displayed, but at least I got something adequate. (I’ll show some of the photos as soon as I can find a plug that can attach my camera to my laptop)
Well that’s all I’ve done today. I feel like I’ve practically used an entire forest for this session. But if I were worried about deforestation, I wouldn’t be constantly drawing on paper everyday.

My First Week Back at LCC
I've really enjoyed my first week back in LCC. My tutors are very nice (and one of them is Irish) and I've got to meet a lot of my classmates for this year, even some of my old classmates from ABC Diploma Graphics were there as well. We did some short assignments in our first day back and it really help get my graphic brain working again.
On Thursday I got to do a VCT session with Vishua Mahabir. We learned about the relationship between context and imagery. The idea of how much the text and image help each other really fascinated me. Also, it was very fun to match these images to these captions we were given. My one was an image of a church with the caption "Spread of lies." That really gave a lot to talk about, considering all the atheists and discriminators out there.
Tomorrow, we're gonna learn about 'image.' I make another post after the session. But overall I really enjoyed my week and meeting my new tutors and meeting new people in my class.

I See You
This was a little excercise my class did in our freshers week. We had to put googly eyes anywhere around the school and take a photo of it. The image above was mine. It was a simple idea but I like it anyway.
My First Blog
Truthfully, I never knew what a blog was at first, but on my first day in Fda graphic I was showed a presentation about what a blog was and examples of different blogs in the internet. I was fascinated by how helpful a blog can be for my graphic studies. Many of these blogs I've seen have very useful info about different medias in graphics and stuff about galleries they've seen. I quite excited to see how far this blog goes at the end of the year.
After the presentation, we were given an assignment which involves all the things we've learned throughout that day. We were to get into groups, come up with a theme, and create a blog about it. I got into my group and the first thing we did was to get back the lunch we missed from the presentation we had. It was a good presentation and all, but I really wanted my lunch. So anyway, me and my group decided our theme should be about conflict. We some photo of people arguing with each other and began writing our blog. Sadly time was not our side, we had to rush making our blog and to quickly upload our photos. Somehow we manage to finish it in time.
Well anyway, that's it for this post. Hopefully I'll put some more exciting posts than this one.
Signing off! (that is so cliche...)
